Laura began her career in health and fitness when she became a Jazzercise instructor 30 years ago while pursuing a PhD in environmental science at UCSB. Maintaining a regular exercise routine enabled her to manage the stress of academia. She taught Jazzercise regularly for 16 years in Santa Barbara and Carpinteria while working as a professor at Cal State Northridge and later as an Assistant Dean at UCSB. Also, during this time Laura because interested in yoga and Pilates and became a regular practitioner of both and pursued her first Pilates certification through IM=X Pilates. After 20+ years in academia, Laura decided to take the bold step and retire from the university so that she could pursue fully what had always been her primary passion—helping individuals maintain active lifestyles and enjoy dignified longevity through mindful fitness and movement. Laura pursued certifications in Bikram Yoga, Hatha/Flow Yoga from Santa Barbara Yoga Center and Stott Pilates and has taught at a number of studios in Santa Barbara. She is a certified Stott Pilates mat and reformer trainer. She has also completed Stott Pilates trainings in Stability Chair, Barrels, and Injuries and Special Populations as well as a number of specialty workshops. Laura is devoted to continuing her education and training. Most recently, she took Stott’s foundation courses and numerous workshop for ZEN•GA™, a synergistic blend of mind-body modalities. In addition, Laura participated in Booty Barre training and is excited to offer these fun, high-energy dance-inspired classes which weave together her past experience in dance fitness and her more recent passions of Pilates and yoga. Laura is committed to making her classes and sessions with clients a mind-body experience so that students can learn long-term, effective movement patterns that nourish and/or heal their body while simultaneously focusing their mind to bring a greater sense of calm and self awareness.
